Emilie Joy Rowell
SAUNA MASTER
& EMBODIMENT COACH

My sauna story & philosophy
I started going to saunas as a swim-loving teenager (30 years ago!), and have found myself back in them at various points in my life.
Generally they've rppeared right when I needed them - at points of stress and change in life; finishing my degree in my 20's, single parenting in my 30's, shifting into perimenopause in my 40's.
The sauna has been there, right when I needed it. As well as the plysical hug-like nature of the warmth, I've learnt that sauna was giving me much more...
- Resilience.
- Deep release.
- Space for contemplation.
- Social connection.
Through working as an embodiment coach, I've deepended my understanding of sauna to be deeply rooted in connecting to nature. To it's cycles, seasons and rhythm - and how those are echoed in us.
The traditions of northern european sauna practices, bringing smoke, branches and a respect for nature as well as a connection to our collective ancestry.
Humans have been using fires for at least 800,000 years and yet today, often we have little experience of real flames, the flickering light and heat that radiates from burning wood.
Most of in western culture live our lives in a state of disassociation a lot of the time. Screens pull us out of our experience, preoccupy our minds, The sauna is a reminder of life without the pings - a call back to humanity.
The sauna is a great leveller; we're all the same in there.
The sauna is the perfect place to seek out and deepen these because it lands us back in our bodies, simply and quickly. In the heat and quiet there's space for community and to be part of the bigger web of life.
My sessions are rooted in awareness and choice.
- While these sessions may be guided, participants maintian their agency
